Dear Seven,

As a cautious man, caution learned from many, many dark experiences, I have written this letter to tell you all you wish to know, in the result of my death.

First, about the cause. We are only a very small faction of the Order of Thasos. However, as you already know, we have many extraordinary people in our group, with skills that will serve the cause with great effect. They must all arrive at Westmine and soon. If my information is correct, something big will be happening soon. A rebellion, a strike against the Realm and our best chance of success lies with these individuals making it.

I have named you my heir. Having no natural children of my own, I want you to lead this faction to Westmine. I have explained this to the others, especially Miller, who may not like the decision, so you will not need to discuss it with them, nor provide proof. However, keep this letter in case of any such issues.

You may ask why I have named you heir and promoted you to lead our faction. Well, that answer is ravelled within the answer to the biggest question – who are you? Why are you important? Why did we take you from the Realm?

The first thing you should know is that I once served the Realm and the Autokratōr, with great loyalty. I did all I was asked, regardless of the ethical implications. For years I experimented on animals and latterly on humans. The Autokratōr sought genetic perfection, both in his soldiers and then in his offspring.

I am ashamed to say I helped him with both. First, I created a legion of soldiers, using the DNA from the best in the Military. You’ve seen Bulk and Eagle in action. They were part of this group. Suffice to say, it worked.

Buoyed by this, and greedy for success on the battlefield at the border fronts, he ordered this to be done on a larger scale. He wanted thousands. At this point I began to doubt his intentions. When he had come to me initially, I thought I was working on eliminating inherited conditions, now I was designing people to kill people.

So, I began to waiver in my loyalty.

Then I was asked by the Autokratōr to speak with his wife. They had been struggling to conceive an heir. His wife desperately wanted children. I said I would help. Her intentions were purely based on love. She just wanted a child to love. The Autokratōr wanted to make her happy, but he also saw it as a chance to make his heir stronger. He asked me to modify the genes of the embryo that would become their child. And I did. I modified all eight of them.

Of those eight, only four began to develop when implanted into his wife. She grew big, but I hid the fact that she was having quadruplets from her. Fortunately, when she went into labour, the Autokratōr was away from the City. A day’s travel.
